Gemstone Mining At Perry’s Cave & Family Fun Center!

This family fun destination point offers many activities under one roof. This one location has enough things to do to keep one busy almost the whole day! One of the more unusual events is Gemstone Mining, like prospectors in history. Simply put, YOU do the gemstone mining and panning for treasure, and you KEEP what you find! You’ll find fossils, gems, and polished stones as you pan away from the dirt.

If you are a fan of geodes, you can purchase one of the various sizes, and they will cut it for you! Their highly specialized Diamond Blade saw will open it to display the hidden treasure.

Perry’s Cave and Fun Center

Perry’s Cave and Family Fun Center is an exciting place for family fun on Put-in-Bay. Located just about one mile from downtown Put-in-Bay, Perry’s offers everything from mini-golf to rock climbing. It is one of the stops on the Put-in-Bay Tour Train.

The main feature in the development is Perry’s Cave. This limestone cave lies 52 feet under the surface of the earth. Visitors on tours descend into the cave to take in this nature and see the rare underground lake. Below the surface, it’s always at 50 degrees, so be sure to bring something warm to throw on.

This underground lake was used for drinking water for his troops by Commodore Perry. It also fed the infamous and luxurious Hotel Victory, which burned to the ground in 1919.  This massive hotel burned down in 1919, and its ruins are still visible at South Bass Island Park.

The War of 18 Holes mini golf course at Perry’s is exciting. Each hole tells a tale about a battle in the War of 1812. The course is challenging and educational.

The Rock Wall is fun and a challenge for all ages. Rising 25 feet straight up, it will take all your concentration and effort to climb! The on-site staff is there to help visitors learn about the proper technique of climbing. The Butterfly House is a beautiful sanctuary with butterflies flying throughout the aviary to soothing music. It features a gift shop with numerous Put-in-Bay souvenirs.

The antique car museum is a popular stop near Gemstone Mining and features many of the cars seen each Sunday in the weekly car parade. Admission is free, and there are numerous restored vehicles from many eras. There is ample golf cart parking throughout the complex.

If you become hungry while exploring, DanDee’s Snack Shack offers tasteful and satisfying food like mozzarella sticks, mac ‘n cheese balls, sticks, and fried perch. There is an excellent selection of ice cream flavors and treats to aid in helping you cool down after some friendly competition.
