Kayak the Bay Particulars

Kayak the Bay rents a variety of kayak styles at very reasonable prices. Enjoy island time at a slightly slower pace as you paddle the shoreline, enjoying a view few have experienced. A newbie? No worries! They offer complete instruction as well as guided tours, group packages, and discounts. Inner tubes are available for those who prefer to take a refreshing dip and float around the bay!

If you have a specific area, you would like to see customized tours can be arranged with proper notice. Current water conditions in the area limit some trips, so it’s always best to call ahead or visit their website. The rental facility is located next to Oak Point State Park, the smallest in Ohio. Restroom facilities located at the park are for changing before and after you, Kayak The Bay. Secure storage boxes are available for you to secure your belongings while kayaking.

Rental Kayaks feature two models, Sit On Top and Sit inside styles. Your dog is welcome to come along if they fit!   You’ll be getting a little wet on the adventure, but your items in the boat will stay dry. If you are taking an extended tour, grab a to-go box lunch from one of our Put-in-Bay Restaurants for a picnic lunch at the Massie Cliffside Preserve.

Guided Tours

Groups tours can are personalized to your needs with proper advance notice.. Kayak the Bay features preplanned tours like their popular Gibraltar Island Tour. This fun and the educational tour includes a walking tour on Gibraltar Island where you will see the Glacial Grooves, Cooke Castle, and Perry’s Lookout, which helped change the history of Put-in-Bay in the war.

Other island tours include an overview of Lake Erie, including current topics, research, and the ecosystem of Lake Erie. This tour is an excellent option for beginners and intermediate kayakers, as well as those interested in learning more about the environment. The tour guides will also take you on a paddle around the Put-in-Bay harbor, explaining the history of the area. $10 of each tour cost goes to support the summer scholarship program at Stone Laboratory. Gibraltar Island isn’t always open to the public, so this is an ideal way to visit this secluded spot.

The romantic Sunset Tour is another fun couples option. On this one hour guided tour, you will enjoy viewing the “ship house on the cliff and the limestone cliffs on the West Shore of South Bass Island. Take in the spectacular sunset between Green and Rattlesnake  Islands. The return voyage includes a fantastic array of colors as the sunsets over the western horizon.

Kayak The Bay Location and Nearby Things To Do

The rental office is located just ½ mile from the Boardwalk Restaurant past the Crews Nest and the Put-in-Bay Yacht Club near Squaw Harbor. It is a comfortable walk from the downtown area, and there is ample parking for golf carts, cars, and bikes. The Aquatic Visitors Center tour is close by as well as Ohio State’s Stone Laboratory. The downtown dining destinations are all very close so that you can refuel up after a rigorous paddle.
