Sloppy Joe’s 16th Annual Put-in-Bay Music Fest – Feb. 6 th – 8 th – Key West, FL

Key West, Florida home of Sloppy Joes, will pay honor to Put-in-Bay Ohio and their unique style of entertainment this February 6th – 8th, 2020, as they News February 2020 Photo Of Sloppy Joes For Key West Dayshost the 16th Annual Put-in-Bay Music Fest At Key West. It’s always fun to see the city of Key West virtually overrun by tourists sporting Put-in-Bay shirts as they meet up with their island friends mid-winter!

The lineup this year includes Allie Market, Pat Shepard, Tipsy, and the Donuts (featuring Pete Jarvis), Westside Steve and Pete Jarvis and Ray Fogg’s Wayne Hammondtribute. Pete and Ray will also emcee a ‘Twas the Night Before Put-in-Bay Days’ jam fest the evening before it all begins on February 5th. Many well known Put-in-Bay companies support the event by providing lots of freebies that are passed out during the final day of the Festival. If you can’t make it to the Florida Keys for the party, you can watch the shows on Sloppy Joe’s stage webcam at www.sloppyjoes.com.

Dock Trash Yacht Club Party – Feb. 7th & 8th – Port Clinton

The Dock Trash Yacht Club party is Friday, February 7th and 8th. There will be two bands on Friday night and two groups on Saturday evening. There are rooms available at this time and it’s recommended that you book ASAP as rooms are expected to sell out. Book by phoning Commodore Perry Inn & Suites at 419-732-2645. Ask for the Dock Trash room block.

Chocolate Fest 2020 – Feb. 8th

Who will be crowned the new “Chocolate Champion of Put-in-Bay?” Stop by and try the delicious, delectable chocolate treats all created by our local chocolatiers. After sampling the tasty treats, cast your vote for your favorite. Sign-ups start in January at 10:00 a.m. Drop off your entries. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sample the treats and vote for your favorite one. Only one vote per person! Don’t miss out! Whether you make a chocolate treat or just stop in to help judge, your presence is welcome. Donations for the Friends of the Library, the sponsors of the summer reading programs, and other events, will be accepted.

Kurt Rohrbacher Memorial Ice Fishing Tournament – Feb. 14th & 15th

To honor our fallen islanders, we again have an ice fishing tournament and banquet this year. All proceeds will be going to support the Put-in-Bay scholarships in Kurt’s name. To sign up for fishing, please contact Dan Petro at 419-341-2274. Island Registration will start at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14th, with the site to be determined. The weigh-in will be at Topsy Turvey’s and will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15th, and run until 4 p.m.

The banquet will be held at Topsy Turvey’s at 6 p.m. As in the past, we will do our 50/50 and Chinese raffle. This year, again we will also have a gun raffle. Details to follow. We are always looking for additional donations. Please contact Dan Petro, Lindsay Petro, Barb Rohrbacher, Jeff

News February 2020 Annonces the Put-in-Bay Fire Department Pancake Breakfast – Feb. 16th

On Sunday, Feb. 16th, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Put-in-Bay Fire Department is hosting their annual pancake breakfast. The meal includes pancakes, French toast, eggs, sausage, ham, orange juice & coffee. You won’t go hungry! Please support your local fire department! The meal is paid by donation only.

Fastnacht Bingo Party – Feb. 25th

Join us at the Town Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. for some Bingo and fresh Fastnachts. $10 for ten games of Bingo and lots of delicious fresh Fastnachts afterwords. All proceeds benefit the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Come one, come all!

Other News February 2020 From Put-in-Bay

The Put-in-Bay Township Port Authority recently announced the opening of Lot #2 for additional parking at the Put-in-Bay Airport. It is located across from the terminal building. Please park along the perimeter of the lot (no rows). There are poles along the edge of the lot to keep vehicles on the asphalt. The Port Authority is hoping to provide an additional 25 parking spaces.

In January, the Toledo Blade had a list of local luminaries who passed away in 2019. Among those was Louis Heineman from Heineman Winery. Louis carried forward a family tradition as the third-generation owner of Put-in-Bay’s Heineman Winery and served as a mentor
to emerging winemakers statewide. Also on the list was Ed Moxley, who also had ties to Put-in-Bay. Ed was married to Sue Zura (Put-in-Bay High School Class of 1969). Ed managed a marsh along Sandusky Bay and served as an advocate for conservation as an author and Ohio chairman of Ducks Unlimited.

Former Stone Lab manager Matt Thomas recently started a new position as Water Quality Coordinator at Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District in eastern Ohio. There was a post on The Official Put-in-Bay Facebook Page in January talking about minnow cars. Someone responded, “For us, nonislanders, what the hell is a minnow car? The answer soon followed: “A box you keep in the water, normally tied to a dock, that you catch and store minnows into fish with all Winter.” Someone else thought it was a minnow cart. We did a little research and found that it is indeed “minnow cart.”

Bus Trips For Mardi Gras Weekend?

Did you see the ad yet for the bus trip to Put-in-Bays Island’s Mardi Gras on Saturday, May 9th? The bus will be departing from Hawkins Plaza in Akron at 8 a.m. and returning at 7 p.m. The $60 trip includes bus trip and fare on the Jet Express, light refreshments, and Mardi Gras beads. You’ll have to rent your Put-in-Bay golf carts. Things you might want to bring are a cooler with food and beverages, a tote with comfortable shoes, umbrella, sun hat, light jacket, and anything else you think you might need. We heard this last year when the Put-in-Bay Events Were announced, but it was much ado about nothing.

A reunion of Stoiberland employees hosted by Maura Schroeder and Ken Wilford is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 5 p.m. at Brothers Lounge at 11609 Detroit Ave. in Cleveland. All Stoiberland employees, co-workers from other Put-in-Bay establishments, patrons, and friends from the 80s are welcome to attend.

News February 2020 High Water Expected to Return

The odds are not suitable for a low-water year. Early predictions for high water levels in Lake Erie abound. Some say they could be higher than in 2019. We’re planning on high water this coming season and have already purchased our waders to get to East Point past the Monument and any trips we make to Middle Bass this coming season.

Clevescene.com recently posted “22 Signs You’ve lived in Cleveland Too Long.” Number 10 on their list was Put-in-Bay, and Kelleys Island are considered exotic vacations. Crystal Cave made MoneyInc.com’s list as the #1 Best Thing to do in Ohio for First-Timers. Put-in-Bay was mentioned in the most notable ODOT accomplishments within northwest Ohio in 2019.

ODOT reported to News February 2020 last spring crews in the Ottawa County maintenance garage removed approximately 4,000 tons of lake
bottom material, including sand, dirt, and stone that had washed up onto state Route 357 on South Bass Island. The Boardwalk and The
Upper Deck Family of Restaurants and Booker family have been awarded the 2020 Outstanding Restaurateur Award for Northern Ohio
from the Ohio Restaurant Association. The industry awards ceremony celebrating Ohio’s best & brightest will take place on February 2 3, 2020.
